WHAT IS VING TSUN?

Ving Tsun (also known as Wing Chun) embodies the martial arts equivalent of minimalist ideals, focusing on simplicity, directness, and efficiency in technique, application, and training.

The founder of the system was a woman by the name of Yim Wing Chun who learnt the system from a Buddhist nun, Ng Mui, of the Shaolin temple about 300 years ago.

There are no hidden secrets to this style and is only cultivated through dedicated effort. The development are capability, efficient techniques, and tactical skills is the result of hard work, essential for surviving a physical confrontation.

lineage

The WSL Ving Tsun Chinese Boxing Club in Brunswick is dedicated to perpetuating the legacy of the late Sifu Wong Shun Leung, who was the most accomplished student of the Grandmaster Yip Man.

Wong Shun Leung is responsible for establishing Wing Chun as a formidable fighting system; it is his method of Ving Tsun that is practiced at the Ving Tsun Chinese Boxing Club.

about ving tsun
fighting style

Ving Tsun is a close-range fighting system characterised by simple hand techniques, low line kicking and uncomplicated footwork and direct straight line striking.

training approach

We build foundations by mastering fundamental aspects such as striking,
footwork, kicking, mastering the three empty hand forms (Siu Lim Tau, Chum Kiu, Biu Ji), Chi Sao (Sticking Hands), Wooden Dummy Form and various partner drills. Practitioners also engage with tools like the wall bag and weapons to enhance their skills comprehensively.

The Ving Tsun Chinese Boxing club was established in 1998 by Enzo Verratti, a dedicated practitioner of Ving Tsun since 1979.

He initiated his Ving Tsun journey under the guidance of Sifu David Peterson. His relationship with Sifu David Peterson began as a diligent student and founding member of the Melbourne Chinese Martial Arts Club, evolving over time to include instructional responsibilities and conducted weekly Wednesday night classes for several years.

During this period, he honed his skills through further trips to Hong Kong and has actively participated in various Wong Shun Leung seminars hosted by Sifu David Peterson in Melbourne.

This background culminated in the founding of the WSL Ving Tsun Chinese Boxing Club in 1998. Since then, he has been an independent instructor, imparting his extensive knowledge and mastery of Ving Tsun to his students. He is also a member of the Wong Shun Leung Students Association.

Wong Shun Leung established Wing Chun as a formidable fighting system. And it is his method of Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) that is practiced at the Ving Tsun Chinese Boxing Club.
